Interesting uses for a pincushion and a Thank You

ACey and Deb H have received their little art pieces and wrist pincushions. ACey says she's going to wear hers as a ponytail holder, and Deb H says her cat Broccoli showed a lot of interest. Now I know what else I can use the needle felted balls for! I'm thinking catnip would make the balls more interesting...

Last May, I wrote about almost wearing my ugly wrist pin cushion to the grocery store which resulted in making myself a more attractive version. With these latest versions, I added the kitschy yarn to the wrist band so it would be difficult to misplace or forget to take it off.

Debbi in Chicago (Dubiquilts and her blog) was kind enough to send a link to her tutorial for a simple fabric basket I admired. Thanks, Debbi!

  1. Oh, wow, how funky and fun! I used to get caught out in public with crochet hooks in my bra and pins/needles in my collar. It is always a laugh riot when I notice someone staring at my boobs, because there is a decorative wooden finial sticking out. You just know they think it is some kind of adornment and not a crochet hook.

  2. I remember wearing a big headset to a restaurant at lunch one day, having walked over from work. I never figured out why all the staring until I got back and took a look in the mirror.

  3. I have gone out with a pair of sunglasses on my face and another pair on top of my head. Was with little kids at the time, who thought it was funny, so none of them clued me in. I never discovered the mistake until I was back home looking in the mirror at the extra pair!

I love my 'hair ornament'! Already had a compliment on it as well.

  4. Cool pencushions! Great idea about catnip, too. I saw an amazing felted pencushion at a fabric store and have been kicking myself for not buying it!

  6. Rissa - I've had crochet and knitting needles binding up my hair. I think it might look a little dangerous with the knitting needles. :)

Madcap - Don't you wonder what they thought? I'd assume you were someone very important!

ACey - I've done this. After looking and not finding a pair of sunglasses, I just donned another pair! Of course, later I was relieved they glasses were on my head and not lost.

Sioux - Thanks! The wool is supposed to be good for pins and needles. My LQS had one several years ago; they were wrapped wool fabric and cost $13. These cost nothing but time.

Quiltnbee - It was a fun jump start back into "creating!" Hope I'll be back into it when Thanksgiving is over.

  7. Yup, they definitely need catnip. Doesn't every quilter out there have a cat? It seems like it!

  8. Sande - I don't have any cats, but I think that is unusual for a quilter based on the photographs of cats on quilting blogs. I do have two cat daily visitors who drive Mac crazy. :)

  9. I WILL be wearing mine as a decorative bracelet. It's so cute & it's comfortable. I don't wear a lot of jewelry because of metal allergies. Only the purest golds don't bother me. This is a fun alternative. I'll be showing it off at quilt guild next time. Thanks again!

  10. Deb H. - Well, if you ever want to stick pins in it while you are wearing it, you certainly can. I put a little cardboard encased in felt under the balls so the pins won't go through to your wrist. :)
