1. Scott Wade of San Marcos, Texas creates dirty pictures on the rear windows of cars! In central Texas, caliche dust from dirt roads clings to windshields in a thick film...providing an unconventional canvas.

2. I love NPR and one of my favorite shows (what does this reveal about me?) is Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me - which highlights funny or ridiculous news stories. If I miss the show, I go online and listen later. The other day, I heard this line by Ann Richards, explaining how much fun she had participating on a W,W,DTM segment: "Listen, I just haven't had so much fun since pigs ate my brother." Now, try hearing that line in the exuberant Ann Richards style. I have never heard this expression before and am not completely clear about the meaning, but hearing Ann Richards say those words was enough to make me laugh aloud.

3. I just ordered several books from Amazon.com:

The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins

The Woman in Black - Susan Hill

Parnassus on Wheels - Christopher Morley

The Haunted Bookshop - Christopher Morley

4. Weekend Edition Saturday, September 23, 2006 · "As an urban mystery, the Toynbee tiles have fascinated fans of street art for more than 25 years. Tending to be about the size of license plates, the tiles are embedded in the streets of various cities, including New York, Washington, Chicago -- even Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires." (more here) and in Wikipedia.

5. Talked to Erin last night and expect a visit tomorrow from our Baton Rouge contingent. Expect more grandchildren pictures soon!

  1. I love that link to the "dirty" art! I think I might have to steal your idea and post that too!

  2. Madcap, aren't they fun? I asked Scott's permission, and he replied immediately graciously granting permission to use the photo. You can reach him through the link and check out the other examples as well. I love 'em!

  3. JenClair, I'm a big fan of WWDTM too! I also heard the line from Ann Richards last weekend (haven't a clue where it came from but it was funny anyway). I heard the original "visit" from which it was excerpted when it aired a couple of years ago. She was many fascinating things, the most obvious of which was lightening-quick funny. I was sorry they didn't choose some other excerpt because I recall some hilarious exchanges about her hair (which was thick and gorgeous silver) and how it was really the most important thing--how good your hair is. That whole segment was LOL funny. What a loss--to politics, humorists, women, recovering alcoholics--so many folks.

  4. Jane Ann - I wish I'd heard that segment. Her quick wit and comic timing could have earned her a place on the comedy circuit--and that voice!

  6. Oh, I wonder if it shows up on other browsers? It's showing on mine, but I've had some problems with posting pictures lately. Sometimes I come back and they aren't there. But glad you enjoyed the link!

  7. Oh, count me as another WWDTM fan! I try not to miss it. And, I just reread the Woman in White this summer. I enjoyed it--in narrative technique it was really advanced. Woman in Black sounds very interesting. Thanks for the tip, and the link.

  8. Kay, I'm so glad that I'm not alone in my appreciation of WWDTM. Since Jane Ann is also a fan, we could start a fan club! When I mention a news story form the show, most people just look at me.

I haven't re-read The Woman in White in years, but recently read that one woman re-reads it every October and thought that might be a nice tradidition Halloween tradition.
